The Willow Tree Retreat, my new blog

Welcome to The Willow Tree Retreat

Bring a cuppa, lets sit by the tree n talk crystals and card decks n breathe. I’ve been so excited to start this new blog, I wanted to add way more pages, make it more perfect, before I launched but I just couldn’t wait any longer, so here we are. My dyslexic brain has been like a firework display, full of so many ideas for how I want this site to look and feel and what to share with you all. So get comfy and I’ll tell you more.

Do click on the three lines at the top of this blog to take you to the menu for all the options on the site.

My journey with Oracle & Tarot

Here is one of the decks that started it all.

My name is Billie, I’m a 40 something and a few years ago I discovered oracle decks. My first deck was Kuan Yin oracle, by the wonderful Alana Fairchild. I never thought I’d get another deck, but I did, and another and another.

To learn more, I took an online class called The Sacred Alone by Susannah Conway, and created my own sacred practice and enjoy creating little sacred spaces around my home. Susannah had other online classes about oracle and tarot; Daily Guidance and Tarot specific; 78 Mirrors.

Tarot was something I never thought I’d be interested in, but I have learnt its not all scary images, there are more deck designs available, than the classic RWS (Rider Weight Smith) decks that you see in films. Those original images didn’t resonate with me at all but I have found many other decks that did, and my collection of those has grown too. Each artist and style bring their own voice and feeling to the deck design, they aren’t all scary skeletons and the death card is about transformation, not that you aren’t gonna make it to the weekend!

There really is a deck for everyone just type your favorite interest or hobby and add the word tarot deck to your search box and you will see what I mean šŸ˜‰

Lenormand and other divination methods

Next came Lenormand, two card decks, a book, I still have a lot to learn but I’d like to take you along with me on my journey with the cards. Help others to see, that far from something scary and sinister, there are card decks that can offer a lot of comfort kindness and support and encouragement on our journey through life.

I’ll also share other divination methods, like runes and pendulum. I’ll share ways to create sacred spaces and ways I’ve found helpful to slow the fast pace of the world, make it feel softer safer and a bit more possible.

Crystals and more

I adore crystals and will be sharing information about the ones I have, what to look out for and how to choose crystals your own crystals, as well as places to buy. Like a lot of us, the world can sometimes spin too fast, and I fall off. Crystals have made a big difference to my life and they can help you will so much. Lets learn together.

Coming soon to The Willow Tree Retreat

In the coming weeks n months I’ll be adding more pages to this blog with information about my own collections and also publishers, places to buy. Books that have been useful and in time reviews on books & decks.

I’ll share ways to create a sacred place at home or on the go. This isn’t just a ramble but a place to learn and share a moment of stillness, with a cuppa, a willow tree and a lake.

I hope you enjoy your visit and will come back soon, to The Willow Tree Retreat.

Right, I’ll press save n see if the light will work to let me put a picture of my first card deck on this post. Set pages the pages I’ve made back to private, until they have been edited for more content then fingers crossed I can set this blog to public and share it with you all. This blog arriving now has been an example of divine timing, I have had the title for AGES had the idea for longer, then I started to take steps toward it happening and things just fell into place. Sometimes you just have to step out of the way and follow you heart and the wispers of your soul.

This is the first post on my new blog. Iā€™m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.

Best wishes and thanks for reading, see you soon

Wild Rituals Intention Deck

The Wild Intentions Deck

Welcome Back

In the previous post, I mentioned the other deck that arrived home. It was the Wild Rituals Intentions Deck from Tamed Wild. Ohh I love this deck, the water colour images, the silky cardstock, the gold edges, the sturdy box. Only thing I struggle with is the very small print that is printed over a decorated background image, which does make it a bit hard to read, but I still LOVE this deck.

The Wild Intentions Deck
The Wild Intentions deck by Tamed Wild.

I have other decks by this company, and they have been wonderful, as soon as I saw this one mentioned I knew this was one I would love to have in my collection.

Each card shows a watercolour image on one side and on the back of the card is; Purpose, History & Lore, Tools, Ritual Instructions & Mantra.

I have used this deck as an oracle, asking a question, shuffling and seeing what cards jump out, for what my higher self is calling for. You could also simply look through the cards and see which image you are drawn too, or flip them over and select from the word that calls to you the most.

The wonderful thing about these decks is you can use them in whichever way calls to and resonates with you at that time.   So find somewhere cozy, place your favorite cloth, and listen in to your soul and see what its calling for. There are 30 cards in the deck, something for everyone.

If you haven’t found this company before, I invite you to follow the links below to find out more about them. They are based in the USA but they also have an importer in Wales so although VAT will be added to the prices shown when u check out at least it avoids additional import fees.

Two new decks for the collection.

The Simple Tarot

Welcome Back

Well this week two decks arrived, and another is hovering on buy/wishlist. The first to arrive was The Simple Tarot, I was lucky enough to win this deck in a draw on The Hermits Cave live chat. Thanks Simon. More about that in a mo. The second deck was The Wild Rituals Deck from Tamed Wild shop, lucky now they have a distributor in Wales so no import fees.

The Simple Tarot

Thanks to Simon for pulling my name out of the hat, I’m looking forward to learning more about tarot from this deck. So far I have been reading intuatively from the thoughts, feelings and interpretaions I get from the deck I am reading at the time. Even though I have several books to learn tarot I haven’t found one I can stick with.

The Simple Tarot

The Simple Tarot looks good for me, being dyslexic the font used on this deck is clear and easy to read. I like the use of colour to seperate the different suits and the keywords and associations are quick n simple to get your head around. There is also a compaion book and ‘cheat sheets’ which show all the cards and how to read them upright or reversed. This set also came with a box for the cards, a drawstring bag to store the cards in and the larger box shown to store the whole set in.

This is a great set for someone new to tarot but also for someone who has been reading a while n wants a way in to traditional meanings to the cards. Interestingly I still love to read intuatively and can totally see why the books advise you to compile your own book of meaning for the cards before you start reading more about their traditional meanings.

You can find weekly live chats with The Hermits Cave on You Tube, on Saturdays at 4pm (UK time) for Catch up and cards. Simon also does regular interviews with people from the tarot community.

Currently on Thursdays you can join The Hermits Cave for; Throwback Thursdays, where he will discuss specific card decks from his collection.

Come and have a look round the menu

Welcome Back

I’ve been busy adding more information to the pages in the menu. Please click on that little set of three lines at the top of the page to find some interesting new pages.

My latest page is called Sacred Space. In today’s busy world where its all go, all the time, here are some books, courses and places to shop to help you create your own sacred space. In future blog posts I’ll be sharing ways to create your own sacred space even in the smallest of places. Especially important when the nights get longer and it can feel a bit lonely.

I highly recomend a Himilayan salt lamp, they are SOO soothing.

That’s it for tonight, just a short post to let you know there is good stuff to be found on that menu, even when the posts are still a little light on photos. I’m working on it. Honest.

May the week be as kind to you as possible, thanks for reading and see you soon.
